intro to carpentry

This 6-week Carpentry Course provides hands-on instruction in basic woodworking and construction skills. Students will learn how to safely use common hand and power tools, read simple plans, measure and cut materials accurately, and build small projects from start to finish. The course emphasizes craftsmanship, problem-solving, and workplace safety while introducing foundational skills that can be applied to home projects or future construction training.

  April 17- April 29, 2026

Wednesdays & Fridays 4:30-7:00P

This 2-week supplemental carpentry course is designed for students who need additional time and support after the initial 6-week program. The course reinforces core skills such as tool safety, measuring and cutting accuracy, plan reading, and basic construction techniques through targeted instruction and guided practice. With a smaller focus on remediation and hands-on repetition, students will strengthen their understanding and build confidence before progressing to more advanced carpentry work.

This 4-week Advanced Carpentry Topics Course builds on foundational skills to explore more complex techniques and applications. Students will focus on advanced tool use, precision joinery, project planning, and problem-solving in real-world construction scenarios. Emphasis is placed on accuracy, efficiency, and craftsmanship as students complete higher-level projects that prepare them for independent work and more advanced training in carpentry.

Our instructor

Daylen Norris is the owner and lead instructor of Daynor Group, bringing over 15 years of professional carpentry experience to the classroom and jobsite. He has been working as a carpenter since 2009 and is a proud member of the Cleveland Carpenters Union, with a career rooted in both union standards and real-world construction demands.


Throughout his career, Daylen has worked with respected organizations including Public Works Carpenters, Marous Brothers Construction, and Cleveland Hopkins Airport, contributing to a wide range of commercial and residential projects. His hands-on experience spans commercial concrete carpentry, residential rough and finish carpentry, wood framing, buildouts, and additions.

Daylen also brings extensive technical expertise in aerial and boom lift operations, window and door framing, blueprint reading, jobsite layout, and work-order–based operations. His instruction emphasizes safety, precision, efficiency, and craftsmanship; preparing students not just to learn carpentry, but to succeed on professional jobsites.


As an educator and mentor, Daylen is committed to providing accessible, skills-based training and helping students build clear pathways into the trades, including referrals to the Carpenter’s Union upon demonstrated competency.
